I’ve noticed Hikey 970 gets quite hot when doing crypto operations. Any idea if it has any thermal protection which makes sure board won’t burn?

There are Software and Hardware protection, which throttle the CPU frequency when reaching temperature limits. In worst case, hardware just ‘stops’ the CPU.
